Race and Ethnicity of U.S. Graduate Students
Graduate students became a more diverse group between 1995–96 and 2015–16. As a share of total graduate enrollment, international student enrollment increased 8.2 percentage points, Black or African American student enrollment increased by 6.7 percentage points, and Hispanic or Latino student enrollment increased 4.3 percentage points. Whites remained the majority in 2015-16 (56.0 percent), although their share of all graduate students declined.

Students in NPSAS:00 and NPSAS:04 were not identified separately by international status.
Data for American Indian or Alaska Native students in 2011-12 should be interpreted with caution. Ratio of standard error to estimate is >30 percent but <50 percent.
